GENESIS: FROM MARRAKECH TO UBRIQUE

Mauska was born in Marrakech in January 2018.

It all started on a trip with my group of friends. At that time, I was feeling a bit lost; the fashion company where I had worked for years had just closed, and I didn't know which direction to take. Although it wasn't my first time in Morocco, this time I was receptive to any signs, and suddenly I found the answer there. When I returned to Spain, I bought a return ticket and spent time contacting different artisans until, on the outskirts of Marrakech, I discovered a small leather goods workshop. I was captivated by the skill with which the artisans worked the leather; at that moment, I knew that this special place was where I belonged. 

The experiences I had during the two years I worked there were wonderful, both on a personal and professional level. The knowledge I gained from working side by side with Moroccan artisans is un paralleled. Although their finishes may never match the quality standards of our current workshop in Ubrique, Spain, in this workshop, they made up for the lack of technology with their expertise. Since their clients were mainly foreigners and the owner had worked in Europe for many years, I managed to understand each other perfectly.

And now you may be wondering... if you were so happy, why did you stop working there? Well, from the beginning, I knew that the best artisans are in our country, in Ubrique, Spain. However, there they demanded a high volume of production, which was not the case in Marrakech. But when I saw that my designs were successful and my sales were increasing, I knew that I was ready to take the risk and make the leap to produce a larger volume in Ubrique, Spain. I wanted to offer my customers the best craftsmanship.

Nowadays, I still maintain an excellent relationship with them.

Roughly, this was our beginning. Perhaps I chose the most difficult path, but it was definitely worth it for everything I learned and enjoyed".
